Student & Family Roles

Our students joined together as small "families" to prepare for this adventure and will continue to learn and engage in this format.  They will share meals, make calls around the world, play games with other families, and support each other while staying awake for over 24 hours!  They chose family names, have "den parents", and will claim a "home" space to chill between calls.

They're a fantastic group of kiddoes :)

Prepping for a Call...
  • Participate in the current call, listen, ask questions, conduct "on-the-spot" research
  • Prepare for an upcoming call by reviewing the caller bio, presentations, location, and develop questions.
  • Take notes in your souvenir spiral book
  • Notes may be used later to help blog and write reflections
  • These notes provide evidence of learning

Making the Digital Call...
  • Communicate, ask questions, answer questions, keep the conversation going
  • There may be a lag with technology, so pause after you say something
  • Tip: use your notes to practice what you will say and how you will say it
  • Be polite and cooperative
  • Be prepared to talk when the video starts
  • Introduce yourself and smile... even when you are so tired

After a Call: Blog, Tweet, and Record Video-Reflections...
  • BLOG about the event at the computer station (like a 24-hour journal).  Type a small blurb and add images about the interview/conversation your group facilitated.  Be careful of what you type, making sure to check spelling and write in complete sentences.
  • TWEET: compose tweets and use the hashtag #delayworldjourney. Describe your experience in the event. Include students who could not attend the event in person.
  • VIDEO JOURNAL: Interview each other, film video journal entries using the reflection stems from your spiral book. Upload images and videos to a designated computer so we can edit the movie as we go.

Rest and Relaxation...
  • Label, shade, and mark-up maps in your spiral. We want you to have a story to tell your parents and friends. Consider drawing arrows from one destination to the next and adding the number of miles between locations.
  • Write reflections, sign each other's books...
  • Color, play games, make notes, doodle, solve puzzles, etc.
  • Nap, refuel, HYDRATE
  • Take care of each other :)
  • Write down anything interesting because you will forget a lot of this awesome experience as time passes!
