This Spring DeLay Middle School will host a 24 Hour World Tour and our team of students will attempt to contact people on each of the 7 continents. We are interested in providing opportunities for our students to interact with people around the world using a variety of platforms (Skype, Zoom, Facetime, etc.) As our kids travel the world digitally and virtually, we will share our experiences through our blog and Twitter #DeLayWorldJourney. We hope you can join us!

Castillo Family's First Call
Our 7 PM call is a 5 way call to Antarctica with Briarhill MS, Lamar MS, FMHS 9, and MHS 9. This is our first call lead by Luis, Yahir and Brandon. We spent about 30 minutes of our break planning out our questions. We have a lot of questions about living in Antarctica. They live in a station from February to November. It is so cold there that planes cannot land. Our presenters told us it was -100 degrees Fahrenheit!! We cannot even imagine how cold that is.
They wear jackets called "Big Red's" our presenter Johannes said that they are the warmest jacket he's ever worn. They have to wear these jackets because where they walk to is at least a 15-20 minute walk in subzero temperatures.
They talked about their daily jobs. They did snow measurements today because their devices are set up in the ice. They like to know how much snow is on top on the sensors. They try to do this at least 3 times a year. It takes them about 3 and a half hours to be able to this. They have a little vehicle that will take them from place to place.
